1992 Holy Name Church began as St. Thomas the Apostle chapel, conducted by the Jesuits in 1865. When the land that had been farmed for the benefit of St. Louis University was subcontracted into a housing development it became necessary to establsih a formal parish, i.e., Holy Name. Its lst church was erected in 1876. The present church was built in 1916. The School Sisters of St. Joseph began a school 1887. As the 20th century neared completion the decline in Catholic numbers resulted in Holy Name being administered from neighboring Our Lady of Perpetual Help (1985). It was formally closed in 1992.
