Holy Rosary Church, located at Margaretta and Newstead (St Louis) was established in 1891. A school staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph was begun in 1894. A new church was built in 1923. Due to declining Catholic population in the area the parish was closed in 1994. At that time the parishioners were asked to merge with those of St. Engelbert’s to form the new Parish, St. Elizabeth Mother of John the Baptist centered at the old St. Engelbert location.
