(Most) Holy Trinity parish was begun in 1898. Slovakian Catholics immigrated to the United States in large numbers at the turn of the century because of the unrest in Europe. Settling in the Soulard area of St. Louis, they initially worshipped with the Bohemian Catholics at St. John Nepomuk. Eventually, seeking their own worship space they acquired the former Baptist church at 1145 Park Avenue. In 1924 needing to acquire a new site they purchased the St. Paul's Evangelical Church near 9th and Soulard. In 1992, due to decline in Catholic population, the church building was sold and the worship community rejoined the Catholics at St. John Nepomuk.
