St. Elizabeth Church for Colored was established at 14th and Gay Streets in 1873. It was staffed by the Jesuits. A 2nd church was later built at 2721 Pine. Its’ first school (1874) had a lay faculty. Later, i..e., in 1880, it was run by the Oblates Colored Sisters of Providence and finally by the Blessed Sacrament Sisters (1914). In 1951 Cardinal Ritter suppressed the parish as he guided the Archdiocese toward racial integration. The property currently belongs to AGE Properties Inc.
