Archbishop Carlson invites St. Louis on pilgrimage to Ireland for International Eucharistic Congress, June 2012

All of the faithful are invited to join Auxiliary Bishop Rice on a pilgrimage to Ireland for the 50th International Eucharistic Congress in June 2012

Archbishop Robert J. Carlson announced that Auxiliary Bishop Edward M. Rice is to lead a pilgrimage for the Archdiocese of St. Louis to the 50th International Eucharistic Congress in Dublin, Ireland, June 13-21, 2012, in the hopes that every parish will make an effort to attend.

“I invite every parish to form a pilgrimage delegation and join the Archdiocese of St. Louis as we celebrate this world-wide gathering,” Archbishop Carlson wrote in a letter of invitation to the archdiocese.

Archbishop Carlson announced that the pilgrimage provider, Faith Journeys, has  “been in close collaboration with the International Eucharistic Congress staff in Dublin.”  He added that he knows those who attend the Congress will return “re-energized to proclaim that we are Alive in Christ!”

The 2012 International Eucharistic Congress in Dublin has been set by Pope Benedict XVI to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the Second Vatican Council and its teachings. The Congress also happens to be scheduled for approximately one year after the Archdiocese of St. Louis came Alive in the Body of Christ  during its own Eucharistic Congress, and will be a great way for all who participated to experience the Eucharist with the Universal Church.

“The International Eucharistic Congress is a rare moment of grace as the entire Church reflects on Vatican II’s teaching that the Eucharist is the 'source and summit' of our Faith (Sacrosanctum Concilium),” wrote Archbishop Carlson.

The cost per person for the Faith Journeys pilgrimage from St. Louis to Ireland is $2,795, plus tax, double occupancy. With Bishop Rice leading the pilgrimage, it is important to remember that space is limited and early registration will be necessary.

“This is an opportunity to celebrate the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist,” Bishop Rice wrote in a letter of invitation. “I hope this Eucharistic Congress will enhance our understanding of the Eucharist as true personal Communion with Jesus Christ.”
