Cardinal Carberry Award

Cardinal CarberryNamed in honor of the late John Cardinal Carberry for his leadership and vision in establishing in 1973 the Archdiocesan Pro-Life Committee (which later became the Respect Life Apostolate), the Cardinal Carberry Award is presented annually to an individual or individuals who have made a significant contribution to the pro-life cause. The Respect Life Apostolate invites you to submit nominations for the Cardinal Carberry Award.

We accept nominations of individuals who are current members of the Respect Life Apostolate network, i.e. officers, parish or deanery coordinators, parish pro-life committee members, etc. Individuals active in other pro-life groups are also eligible for nomination and will receive equal consideration. The following are two factors we ask that you bear in mind in making your nomination:

  1. The nominee has made a significant contribution to the pro-life cause. This contribution could be public or behind the scenes. We are looking for an individual (or couple) who has been willing to make great personal sacrifices for the protection and sanctity of God’s most vulnerable: the unborn, frail, elderly and terminally ill.
  2. The nominee’s efforts must reflect the goals and strategies of the Respect Life Apostolate. We are looking for individuals who embody the mission of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities: to educate society regarding the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death, to encourage pastoral efforts to support those threatened by a culture of death, to seek laws and public policies that reflect a respect for human life, and to promote prayer as the source and summit of all respect life endeavors.

To nominate someone for the Cardinal Carberry Award, download the application form here.  Nominations for the 2017 Cardinal Carberry Award are due on Friday, September 15.

The winner of the Award will be announced at the Respect Life Convention on Sunday, October 22, 2017.
