LOCAL CATHOLIC STUDENTS ATTEND “SATURDAY SCHOOL”

PART OF THE CURRICULUM AND HELPS THE COMMUNITY

WHAT: Fifty students at Most Holy Trinity Catholic School and Academy attend voluntary enrichment classes on Saturdays, to enhance their weekly academic curriculum and to help strengthen the fiber that builds their North City community.

WHEN: Media availability Saturday, October 30, 2010 from 10-11:30AM

WHERE: Most Holy Trinity Catholic School, 1435 Mallinckrodt Street in North St. Louis

St. Louis, MO – Most students like to sleep in on Saturdays, but Most Holy Trinity Catholic School and Academy has a waiting list of students who want to go to school on Saturday. Since the Fall of 2009, the school has offered Saturday enrichment classes as part of its curriculum.

Since February, the students have been working on a “community master plan.” The actual hands-on project will center on the specific historical notes, architecture, and restoration process of just one residential building located near the school.   This restoration process will eventually provide additional art studio space for the school children, an art studio for local and/or visiting artists and architects, and act as a gathering space to promote the vision of art and music for the larger St Louis community.   In conjunction with this project, children will prepare a brochure to be distributed throughout our neighborhood educating our neighbors about this project, area history, and the importance of restoration.
