WHAT: Bishop Edward M. Rice will preside at the liturgy in commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks

St. Louis, MO - To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attack on the United States, the Archdiocese of St. Louis will host a Mass on September 11, 2011, at the Saint Louis Cathedral Basilica.

Bishop Edward Rice will be the principal celebrant and homilist at the regularly scheduled Sunday 10am Mass at the Saint Louis Cathedral Basilica.

Members of the Saint Louis Fire Department and Saint Louis Police Department will be active participants in the Mass. The honor guards from the police and fire departments, along with the Knights of Columbus, will process into the Cathedral where special guest seating will be made available to them and to additional members of their units. Lectors and gift bearers for the Mass will be Catholic members of both departments.

In addition, the Fire Department will place a large American flag across Lindell Boulevard at Newstead the morning of September 11th.

The community is encouraged to attend this Mass in honor of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks and to support the police and fire personnel who risk their lives to protect us every day.
