Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe

December 12 is the day Catholics celebrate the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Many of our brothers and sisters in the Archdiocese will be gathering this weekend and Monday for a time of traditional prayers and celebrations. You are welcome to participate in the Guadalupe and Advent celebrations taking place. And may the intercessions of San Juan Diego and our Lady of Guadalupe bring us closer to one another and to the Lord.

Hispanic Heritage Month, Saint Teresa of Ávila

Hispanic Month and Día de la Raza

On September 15^th the Office of Hispanic Ministry sent out information on Mexican Independence Day recognizing International Independence Day celebrations of our Hispanic sisters and brothers .

September 15^th begins the Hispanic Month that ends on October 15^th. In this final week of Hispanic Month we will celebrate Día de la Raza.

Día de la Raza (Heritage Day), is the celebration of the Spanish-speaking peoples on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. The Archdiocese of St Louis, Office of Hispanic Ministry would like to recognize this final week of Hispanic Month through the work and spirit of César E. Chávez and Church Doctor, Saint Teresa of Ávila.

Here is a quote demonstrating the action and unity between the work of César E. Chávez and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. (1969)

This committee of five bishops and two priests traveled California's Central Valley and mediated a settlement in the five-year conflict. Within months, a new and more difficult struggle began in California's lettuce fields. This time the Catholic Church drew on its long-standing tradition of social teaching and shifted its policy from neutrality to outright support for César Chávez and his union, the United Farmworkers (UFW). The Bishops' Committee became so instrumental in the UFW's success that Chávez declared its intervention "the single most important thing that has helped us."
