Dear Friend,
With much thanks and gratitude, we want to tell you about Sayaricuy Home, where we welcome children from the street who are suffering and abandoned. They are the marginalized, the forgotten, dressed in filthy clothes, ragged and neglected, roaming the streets. Their daily bread is suffering, hunger and cold, despised and avoided by people who pass by and considered as having no rights. There is no one to talk or cry out for them. All they have is clefa (drugs), the pain, and silence. It is they who come to Sayaricuy Home asking for the opportunity to better themselves, to be happy, to believe in something, and to be able to live free from all that has hurt them in the past.

Kipp's Story |

Monday, 03 November 2008 |
Sr. Carol is a staff member at AMANECER, an orphanage network in Cochabamba, Bolivia. She is involved in the Saint Louis sponsored program, Pan y Amor.
Dear Friends,
I received the attached story from some friends, who over the course of five years adopted three children from Salomon Klein. I'll tell you a bit about Kipp, the boy who is featured in the article, and my relation to his family.
I met Kipp my second year here in AMANECER when I lived at Casa Nazareth. Cochabamba continues to suffer from the fact that there still is not 24 hours a day of running water but back in the early 90's it was much worse. Casa Nazareth received very little water from the city of Cochabamba, and washing clothes for all of the children plus us sisters and lay volunteers was a real adventure.
So, once Salomon Klein became part of the AMANECER family in mid 1991, Sister Carolyn Pozarich and I would go down at night to Salomon Klein and use their washer and well water for the clothes of Casa Nazareth. Since the washer was automatic, only one of us was needed to load and unload it. So Emma, the administrator, decided that I could be put to use as a babysitter for a tenth month old little boy who usually was not very interested in sleeping at 7:30 p.m.

A Mass For Peace |

Wednesday, 10 September 2008 |
Sr. Carol is a staff member at AMANECER, an orphanage network in Cochabamba, Bolivia. She is involved in the Saint Louis sponsored program, Pan y Amor.
As most of the world is aware, Bolivia has been experiencing many conflictive situations over the last several months. On August 10, an election was held to confirm or recall the president as well as state governors in all of Bolivia. Thus, the bishops of Bolivia called the Church to pray throughout the month for peace in Bolivia.

Dear Friends,
We are happy to be writing you from the Vocation Complex of Amanecer where some of the young men of the program are learning technical trades to be able to support themselves later in life.
The Vocation Complex started early in the history of the program to keep the boys occupied in something productive and to teach them skills needed in the work world. We started with a carpentry workshop and later metal mechanics, which were in one of the houses of Amanecer. As the needs grew, a piece of land was purchased where a series of buildings were built and equipped where training is now provided in carpentry, metal mechanics construction, electricity, plumbing, and, more recently, baking. In this letter we'd like to focus on the bakery. For a number of years we have been training boys in the skills needed to work as bakers. When they finish their preparation they are able to find work in this trade.

Anniversaries in Cochabamba, Bolivia |

Sr. Carol is a staff member at AMANECER, an orphanage network in Cochabamba, Bolivia. She is involved in the Saint Louis sponsored program, Pan y Amor.
Dear Friends,
It is great pleasure to share with you some of the things that are going on in Amanecer and especially in Madre de Dios and the day care center.
On the 26th of April, we celebrated the 27th aniversary of Amanecer with a mass. Fr. Theo, with his great sense of humor, held everyone's attention as members of all of our centers joined togheter on this great day in the music, singing and even dancing. Let us tell you about it. The large photos of Sr. Stephanie that were placed before the altar reminded us of her continued presence with us. The small children from Salomon Klein seemed to be walking sunflowers as they carried up the flowers, each with the name of one of the houses. The pre-adolescents danced the Gloria with an African rhythm prepared by Sr. Maggie from Tanzania. Near the end of the mass the adolescents of Madre de Dios danced to words and music of a new CD, "We Are The Body of Christ", extending their movements with the use of blue, white and yellow ribbons. With about 400 people present, children and adults, all attention was on them. It was a very holy and inspiring moment. All of this ended with prayers of thanksgiving for these 27 years and the help which each of you contributed to make these years of service possible.

Sr. Carol is a staff member at AMANECER, an orphanage network in Cochabamba, Bolivia. She is involved in the Saint Louis sponsored program, Pan y Amor.
Dear Friends,
This time, we are writing to you from Ana María house, the fourth stage of Amanecer, which is the stage for social and vocational development. We emphasize personal formation, formal education, technical training, within the context of a Christian community. The goal is to provide continuity during the personal formation process by mapping a personal plan. This personal plan includes an intake of desires, capabilities, and possibilities, while strengthening, facilitating, motivating and accompanying each adolescent to make his personal goals and objectives a reality. When our adolescents succeed, they can live an independent and responsible life. That is the goal of the program.

Sr. Carol is a staff member at AMANECER, an orphanage network in Cochabamba, Bolivia. She is involved in the Saint Louis sponsored program, Pan y Amor.
Here in AMANECER – Yaykuna so many things have been happening that it’s a bit difficult to know where to start to share what has been going on in the past few months. First of all, we were able to help approximately 725 young people with school supplies with which to start the new school year. We also upgraded our textbook and reference library for students from K through 12th grade and are looking into the possibility of extending our computer program to include Internet reference sites. We believe that education is the key to ensuring long range social changes for the Bolivian people as well as an excellent way of keeping young people out of trouble.
