The main reason for Archbishop Robert J. Carlson’s visit to Riberalta was to concelebrate the 50th Anniversary Mass of priestly ordination of Bishop Morgan Casey. The Golden Anniversary Mass took place in the Cathedral of Riberalta, and a reception in Bishop Casey’s honor took place in the auditorium after the Mass.
While in Riberalta, the group also had the opportunity to go for a riverboat ride on the Madre de Dios River (the boats are used by the Vicariate of the Pando to visit communities that can only be reached by boat), visited a Brazil nut factory, one of the chief industries in the city of Riberalta, and visited a center for disabled children called Centro de Nuevos Horizontes – Center of New Horizons. The center provides daycare for children with severe disabilities, as well as physical therapy for them. The group also visited San Jose Grade School in Riberalta. Bishop Casey obtained the necessary grants from various foundations for this school to be built. The students were delighted to visit with Bishop Casey and Archbishop Carlson.
