Dear Pan y Amor Sponsor,
Just a few months ago my visit to Bolivia included a visit to the Home for children in La Paz, called Hogar Carlos de Villegas. This home has over 30 children who were abandoned as newborns or young toddlers, along with 100 girls of school age who cannot live in their families of origin because of severe family problems.
Upon arrival to this home for children, I first visited Sister Rosario Arnao, the Sister of Divine Love (as her order’s name is translated into English). She has administered this home for well over 30 years. She is a Missionary from Spain. You can see Sister Rosario’s photo below. She is the lady on the extreme right of the photo. Pictured with her are some of the staff of this home. I took this photo in the nursery section of this home for children.
While in the nursery I greeted other children. Near me in the photo is a little girl name Karina (Karen in English). She surprised me by waving, along with me, to Sister Rosario. It is easy to see why Karina and the other toddlers could easily melt one’s heart through their smiles and their yearning to be loved and to belong to a family.
Sister Rosario commented during my visit with her that the President of Bolivia, President Evo Morales does not want Bolivian children to be adopted by foreigners. Nonetheless, he has been unable to provide a subsidy for abandoned children more than a few Bolivianos/day. There are approximately 7 Bolivianos to one dollar U. S. at current exchange rates. It is impossible to feed the children in these photos on such a meager amount from the government.
That is why our contributions to Pan y Amor continue to make a huge difference for Sister Rosario and the other caregivers. We recently sent 3 months’ donations for this orphanage from our donors who give to Hogar Carlos de Villegas. Thanks to you, our donors, we sent $2,400.00 to this home for children.
May God reward you for your sacrifices through Pan y Amor to help these children in the photos, and so many others that you support.
Gratefully in Our Lord,
Monsignor Francis X. Blood
