LIFT (Life Information From Teens)
I. What Is L.I.F.T?
Our next event is: MARCH 13 -
"THE BEST KEPT SECRET" - Natural Family Planning, A way of following God’s plan for achieving and/or avoiding pregnancy.
HOST SCHOOL: St. Joseph Academy
TIME: 7-8:30 PM
LOCATION: cafeteria
If you would like to host L.I.F.T. at your high school or parish youth group, contact Sarah at the RLA.
LIFT is both educational and apostolic in focus. LIFT members receive training from the RLA and participate in a peer-to-peer apostolate, challenging others to think seriously about the dignity of the human person.
L.I.F.T. meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month during the school year, September-May, 7-8:30 p.m.
II. Schedule
Meetings vary in their content from hearing from local life experts/advocates to doing apostolic work at one of the many member organizations of the Lifeline Coalition (Good Shepherd Children and Family Services, Birthright, and Our Lady's Inn). Our meetings offer a real opportunity to delve into life issues right here in St. Louis.
It is important to give witness to our beliefs through our actions and not just our words. For that reason, LIFT teens participate in a variety of prolife activiies in the Saint Louis area, including, but not limited to:
- Participate in the 3rd Saturday Helpers' of God's Precious Infants
- Sponsor an evening with 40DaysSt.Louis
- Service Projects for PRC's and any other Respect Life ministries (Lifeline Coalition)
- Promote the cause of Life in all arenas of life, including family, school, and parish
Each of the Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese has a Pro-Life Moderator, a teacher or campus minister who is in communication with the Respect Life Apostolate. As the teen arm of the Respect Life Apostolate, LIFT works hand-in-hand with the Pro-Life Moderators at the high schools to distribute information on life issues and promote pro-life initiatives.
IV. Other Special Events
October:
The Convention is another avenue for life training through speakers, workshops, and fellowship. Strengthened and inspired by the convention, the students return to their schools, families and friends to spread the loving message of the Gospel of Life!
AWARDS: During the Convention, a high school or youth ministry group is awarded the Bishop McNicholas Award, to honor the service that they have done for the cause of life in the St. Louis community. The awards are based soley on nominations, so fill out a nomination form here (e-version).
January: March for Life
Because LIFT is about receiving the Leaven of the Gosepl of Life and bringing it back to one's own community, we encourage LIFT teens to participate in the March either with their parish or high school group, or in coordination with The Way, The Truth, and The Life trip sponsored by the Archdiocese. There is no wrong way to go to D.C., so however you get there, great!
Summer: Pro Life Camps and Service Projects
There are many summer camps training students to become more educated, active leaders in the pro life movement. In the past, we have attended Dallas Boot Camp, promoted by the Dallas Archdiocese. Other diocese hosting similar camps include: Kansas City, Portland, and Chicago, to name a few.
Check back in the Spring for more information on these camps!
