The Respect Life Apostolate hosted a theology brown bag seminar where Dr. Lawrence Feingold, Assistant Professor for the Institute for Pastoral Theology of Ave Maria University, shared three presentations on the Catholic faith. (Here is a single-page fact sheet about the IPT.pdf)

So that more can benefit from these rich presentations, each was recorded and Dr. Feingold provided his notes for further reflection.

Curé of Ars: Master of Pastoral Theology (5/17/2010)

This first talk focuses on the tremendous example of the life of St. John Vianney for pastoral ministry and pastoral theology. Pope Benedict XVI, in his 2009 Letter to Priests, wrote: “Dear brother priests, let us ask the Lord Jesus for the grace to learn for ourselves something of the pastoral plan of Saint John Marie Vianney.” Dr. Feingold examines the pastoral plan that, towards the end of the Curé’s life, brought 80,000 pilgrims each year to the tiny village of Ars. He focuses in particular on St. John Vianney’s extremely lofty understanding of the sacrament of Holy Orders, the mission of the priesthood, and its importance for all the faithful.

Spousal Meaning of the Body, Marriage & the Transmission of Life 

The second and third talks focus on John Paul II’s Theology of the Body and his profound understanding of the spousal meaning of the body, the sacramentality of marriage, and the transmission of life. Dr. Feingold examines God’s plan in creating man male and female and how marriage was established as the primordial sacrament manifesting the divine love and Christ’s love for His Church. He also focuses on Paul VI’s encyclical Humanae vitae, John Paul II’s presentation of it, and its great pastoral importance in today’s world.
