The Hellriegel Collection at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary consists of the majority of Msgr. Hellriegel's personal library gathered over his lifetime and reflecting his deep interest in Church liturgy.
The Collection was acquired by Kenrick in 1978 through the efforts of Fr. John E. Rybolt, then Vice Rector, who recognized the unique opportunities Msgr. Hellriegel's collection offered to future seminarians and outside researchers. Much of the collection is in the German language. It also includes a supplementary collection of memorabilia, photographs, books, dissertations, oral histories, etc. about Msgr. Hellriegel and his influence on the Catholic liturgy. For sixty years Msgr. Hellriegel was an influential leader of the liturgical movement in the United States. His personal papers are part of the Special Collections at Boston College.
The collection presently resides in the Library's Archives. The collection will eventually be integrated in the General Collection and available for checkout by faculty and students of Kenrick Seminary. However, special and rare books will be placed in special section of Rare Books.
