Feast Days, Holy Days and other Masses: Special Information

When this Holy Day of obligation falls on a Monday or Saturday, the obligation to particiapte in the Eucharist is abrograted.  The obligation is dispensed.  Note: These days remain "holy days", solemnities, even though there is no obligation to participate in the Eucharist.  Therefore, Ritual Masses, i.e. funerals and weddings, may not be celebrated.  

The Ascenion of the Lord: June 2, 2011 

The Feast of the Ascension falls on June 2, 2011.  However, in 1999 a majority of provinces in the United States, including Missouri, transferred the Ascension to the 7th Sunday of Easter.  This will continue indefinately, unless the indult is rescinded.

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary: August 15, 2011

When this Holy Day of obligation falls on a Monday or Saturday, the obligation to particpate in the Eucharist is abrogated.  The obligation is dispensed.  Note: These days remain "holy days", solemnities, even though there is no obligation to participate in the Eucharist.  Therefore, Ritual Masses, i.e. funerals and weddings, may not be celebrated.   

This year August 15, 2011 falls on a Monday.  Therefore, while it still remains a "holy day", the obligation to pariticipate in the Eucharist is dispensed
