About Sister Maria Celeste P. Kay: Being a contemplative nun, I love solitude, silence and prayer, as well as enjoying being with my sisters at recreations and welcoming our guests/visitors, and making them feel at home as we are brothers and sisters in the Lord. My favorite hobbies are music, sports, enjoying nature, as well as seafood, singing, dancing, interests in romantic languages, fine arts and watching good and decent comedies (some of which I have given up since joining my community in Liguori). My favorite quotes are, "As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Live on in My love." (John 15:9); and, "God is Love." (1 John 4:8).

50th Profession

Sister Ann Marie of the Holy Spirit

Birth name: Shirley Ann Gool

Birth place: Erie, Pennsylvania

Entrance: Oct. 28, 1968

First profession: Oct. 16, 1971

Service in the archdiocese: Prioress, formator, secretary and bursar, Liguori, 1971-96

Prioress, formator, secretary and bursar, Liguori, 2012-present

Service outside the archdiocese: Missioned to the new foundation in South Africa, 1996-2011

About Sister Ann Marie of the Holy Spirit: I felt called to the contemplative life as I felt that any other ministry was too limited, whereas prayer has no limits. The simplicity of the people in South Africa was a great example to me that has made an enduring mark on my contemplative life. I am grateful to the Lord and my community for their support these 50 years. We are a multicultural community which brings the richness of American, Thai and Filipina cultures. Our charism is a joyful contemplative response of the plentiful and merciful love of Jesus, the Redeemer. Our monastery is located near the Redemptorists at Liguori. Being in the Archdiocese of St. Louis has given a broader view of the richness of the Catholic Church in America.
