A funeral Mass for Deacon William Casseau was celebrated on Feb. 23 at St. Pius V Church in St. Louis. Deacon Casseau died Feb. 19. He was 83.

Deacon Casseau was ordained on Feb. 1, 1986, at the Cathedral of Saint Louis by then-Archbishop John L. May. He was assigned to and assisted the pastors at St. Pius V, St. Francis de Sales and St. Stephen Promartyr parishes in St. Louis from 1986 until his retirement from active ministry in 2007. He served his parishes by presiding at baptisms, funerals, Communion services and weddings, as well as nursing home and homebound Communion ministry. Deacon Casseau also served as a chaplain at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Deacon Casseau was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Joyce M. Casseau (nee Lichtenberg). He is survived by his daughter, Sue Casseau; son, William J. Casseau; and three grandchildren. In his professional career, Deacon Casseau worked as a tool designer.
