Obituary | Father Robert Roedig

A funeral Mass for Father Robert Roedig was to be celebrated March 9 in the St. Vincent de Paul Chapel at the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury.

Father Roedig, a former parish pastor, died March 5 at age 89. A native of St. Louis, he attended St. Louis Preparatory Seminary and Kenrick Seminary and was ordained in 1953 by then-Archbishop Joseph E. Ritter.

Following ordination, Father Roedig was named assistant pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish in south St. Louis. He was named assistant pastor of Little Flower Parish in Richmond Heights in 1959, St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish in Riverview Gardens in 1966 and Annunziata Parish in Ladue the next year.

Father Roedig was named pastor of St. Stephen Parish in Richwoods in 1968, Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in House Springs in 1972 and St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Shrewsbury in 1983. He was appointed senior priest at Immacolata Parish in Richmond Heights in 1987. He retired in 2004 and moved to the Regina Cleri residence for retired priests in Shrewsbury.

For about nine years, he served as confessor for the Carmelite Sisters of Divine Heart of Jesus at St. Agnes Home in Kirkwood. In an article in the Review, he said he loved all the parishes in which he served and always figured each place was where God wanted him to be and to find happiness.
