Obituary | Sister Barbara Armstrong

A funeral Mass was celebrated for Sister Barbara Armstrong June 30 at the Redemptoristine Nuns monastery chapel in Liguori. Sister Barbara died June 17. She was 90 and a member of the Redemptoristines for 65 years.

Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, she was a convert to the Catholic faith and entered the cloistered community in Toronto in 1947. She made profession in 1950 and was later sent as the first superior of the Redemptoristines when they came to Liguori in 1960.

Sister Barbara was a talented artist. She had written a number of icons of Our Mother of Perpetual Help and had done several paintings, which are on display in the United States and Canada. Her gift for sewing was evident in the ceremonial robes that she made for the Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre. She also was a keen bird watcher and enjoyed seeing the many varieties of birds that flew into the garden.

She is survived by one brother, John Armstrong, of Canada, and a niece. Burial was in the cemetery at Liguori.
