We are all accountable for all of the gifts God has given us – our time, our talent and our treasure; everything we have and everything we are.Each of us is accountable not only for our own life but for the lives of others as well.One day God will ask each of us what did we do with the gifts we were given.How will you respond?

One of the tenants of living a grateful and generous lifestyle is giving without expecting anything in return.It is important that we not only grow, nurture, and share our gifts; but that we also teach our children and encourage others to do the same.This is the communal aspect of our Catholic faith.We are the “Body of Christ.”We are called to be dependent on each other and not live in isolation.

Imagine taking nothing but a stick when you go on a trip.The Apostles must have really trusted in God’s providential care.Think of all the material things “we can’t live without” in today’s world.We make our life’s journey more difficult because of all the material baggage that we drag along.Putting God first in everything and putting our money and possessions second gives us freedom because we don’t become “slaves” to wanting to acquire more things.

Do you spend time, every day, alone and in silence listening to how God is calling you?If not, you are missing out on a wonderful opportunity to develop a more personal relationship with Him.Unless we talk and more importantly, listen to God every day, how else will we know how He is calling us?Consider making a retreat this year, spend some “alone” time with God.

The miracle of the Loaves and Fishes carries two important messages.First, no matter how little we have, we always have enough to share.Second, Christ can take our humble gifts and do great things with them if we are just willing to let Him.Nothing is impossible with God.All of our gifts, big or small, were given to us for a reason.No gift is too small or insignificant!

When the Israelites gathered more than their daily portion of manna, the surplus became wormy and rotten.In the same way today, self-reliance, pride and ego leads to hoarding and excessive surplus of goods and money.Living a stewardship lifestyle helps us discern our “wants” from our “needs”.Living a grateful and generous lifestyle reminds us that God will provide all that we need and that we have plenty to share.

God knows that committing to a stewardship lifestyle is difficult.However, we were not designed to do it on our own, we need God’s help.Fortunately, God gave us the greatest gift of all, His son, Jesus.Through the gift of the Eucharist, we unite our sacrifice with Jesus’ sacrifice to do the will of God, Our Father.We receive the strength and courage to be His missionary disciples.

This line from Scripture is what ultimately separates Catholics from our Protestant brothers and sisters.Jesus is really present in the bread and wine that are consecrated at Holy Mass.It is His actual body and blood that we consume.This is the greatest gift that we can receive.The Eucharist shows us how great of love that Jesus has for each of us.

When we commit to serve the Lord, we become a disciple in the work of the Lord.A disciple is a person who spends time in prayer every day, joyfully participates in charitable works and generously supports their local parish and Church mission.If we say we serve God, our words and actions should reflect the Gospel message to others.

What is more important – being rich in faith or rich in possessions?Society tells us that possessions are most important.God teaches a different lesson.When we are rich in faith, we keep God first and experience true joy and peace.When we put possessions first, we soon realize we can never have enough and happiness is fleeting.When we put faith over possessions we truly realize it is better to give than receive.

Living a stewardship lifestyle means not only being responsible for my own life, but for the lives of others as well.We realize that our gifts are not intended for ourselves, rather they are meant to be shared with others.“Taking up my cross” means doing things when someone else needs me and not when it’s convenient for me.

Jesus teaches us that we are called to love one another.Love involves sacrifice.Sacrifice is a word that many of us don’t like to hear.We think it means that we must give up something that we want.However, the literal meaning of sacrifice is “to make holy,” from the words “sacer” = sacred and “facere” = to make. In other words, when we sacrifice, we make our lives holy by sharing our gifts in the service of God.

Una de las características de vivir un estilo de vida agradecido y generoso es dar sin esperar nada a cambio.Es importante no solo aumentar, cuidar y compartir nuestros dones; sino también es importante que se lo enseñemos a nuestros hijos y que animemos a los demás a hacer lo mismo.Ese es el aspecto comunitario de nuestra fe Católica.Somos el “Cuerpo de Cristo”.Somos llamados a depender los unos de los otros, no a vivir en aislamiento.

Dios tiene un plan para cada uno de nosotros.Nos llama a hacer algo por Él.Sin embargo, no nos deja de nuestra cuenta para resolverlo.Él nos da los recursos que necesitamos para hacer Su obra.¿Estás escuchando el llamado de Dios?Cuando lo escuchas, ¿te levantas y vas a hacer el trabajo que Él te ha pedido?No tengas miedo, Dios no llama a los que están equipados, Él equipa a los que llama.Responde a su llamado.

“Les ordenó que no llevaran nada para el camino: ni pan, ni bolsa, ni dinero en el cinturón, sino solo un cayado.” Marcos 6:8
Imagine que solo lleva un cayado cuando va de viaje.Los apóstoles debían realmente confiar en el cuidado providencial de Dios.Piense en todas las cosas materiales “sin las que no podemos vivir” en el mundo actual.Hacemos nuestro viaje por la vida más difícil por todo el equipaje material que arrastramos.Poner a Dios en primer lugar en todo, y a nuestro dinero y posesiones en segundo lugar nos da libertad porque no nos transformamos en “esclavos” de querer adquirir más cosas.

¿Pasa tiempo, cada dia, solo y en silencio escuchando como Dios lo llama?Si no es así, está perdiendo una maravillosa oportunidad para desarrollar una relación más personal con Él.A menos que hablemos, y más importante, que escuchemos a Dios cada dia ¿cómo sabremos que Él nos llama?Considere hacer un retiro este año, pasar algún tiempo “a solas” con Dios.

El milagro de los Panes y los Peces lleva dos mensajes importantes.El primero, que no importa que tan poco tenemos, siempre tenemos suficiente para compartir.El segundo, Cristo puede tomar nuestros humildes dones y hacer grandes cosas con ellos, solo tenemos que estar dispuestos a permitírselo.Nada es imposible con Dios.Todos nuestros dones grandes o pequeños nos han sido dados por una razón.¡Ningún don es demasiado pequeño o insignificante!

Cuando los israelitas recogían más de su porción diaria de maná, el excedente se pudría y se llenaba de gusanos.De la misma forma en nuestros días, la autosuficiencia, el orgullo y el ego nos llevan al acaparamiento y al excedente excesivo de bienes y dinero.Vivir un estilo de vida de corresponsabilidad nos ayuda a discernir nuestros “deseos” de nuestras “necesidades”. Vivir un estilo de vida agradecido y generoso nos recuerda que Dios proveerá todo lo que necesitamos y que tenemos mucho para compartir.

Dios sabe que comprometerse con un estilo de vida de corresponsabilidad es difícil.Sin embargo, no estamos diseñados para hacerlo por nosotros mismos, necesitamos la ayuda de Dios.Afortunadamente, Dios nos dio el mayor de los dones, Su hijo, Jesús.A través del don de la Eucaristía, unimos nuestro sacrificio al de Jesús para hacer la voluntad de Dios, Nuestro Padre.Recibimos la fortaleza y el coraje para ser Sus discípulos misioneros.

Esta línea de la Sagrada Escritura es la que al final separa a los Católicos de nuestros hermanos Protestantes.Jesús está realmente presente en el pan y el vino que se consagran en la Santa Misa. Consumimos realmente su cuerpo y su sangre.Ese es el don más grande que podemos recibir.La Eucaristía nos muestra cuan grande es el amor de Jesús por nosotros.

“Y si no les parece bien servir al Señor, escojan hoy a quién han de servir... Por mi parte mi familia y yo, serviremos al Señor.” JOSUÉ 24:15
Cuando nos comprometemos a servir al Señor, nos convertimos en discípulos en el trabajo del Señor.Un discípulo es una persona que pasa el tiempo en oración cada dia, participa con alegría en obras de caridad y apoya generosamente su parroquia y la misión de la Iglesia. Si decimos que servimos a Dios, nuestras palabras y acciones deben reflejar el mensaje del Evangelio a los demás.

Es fácil entender la definición de corresponsabilidad – es vivir una vida agradecida y generosa.¡La parte difícil es hacerlo!¿Cόmo reflejan sus palabras y sus acciones la palabra de Dios?¿Comparte diariamente con Dios su tiempo en oración?¿Utiliza su talento para ayudar a los necesitados sin esperar nada a cambio?¿Eres generoso con tus recursos financieros?Si no es así, ¿qué estas esperando?

“¿No ha elegido Dios los pobres de este mundo, para que sean ricos en fe, y herederos del Reino que prometió a los que le aman?”Santiago 2:5
¿Qué es más importante -ser rico en la fe o rico en posesiones?La sociedad nos dice que las posesiones son lo más importante.Dios nos enseña una lección diferente.Cuando somos ricos en la fe, mantenemos a Dios en primer lugar y experimentamos la verdadera alegría y la paz.Cuando ponemos las posesiones en primer lugar, pronto nos damos cuenta de que nunca tendremos suficiente y la felicidad es pasajera.Cuando ponemos la fe por encima de las posesiones nos damos cuenta de que realmente es mejor dar que recibir.

Vivir un estilo de vida de corresponsabilidad significa que no solo seré responsable por mi propia vida, sino también de la vida de los demás.Nos damos cuenta de que nuestros dones no fueron dispuestos para nosotros mismos, sino más bien para compartirlos con otros.“Cargar mi cruz” quiere decir hacer las cosas cuando alguien más las necesita y no cuando es conveniente para mí.

Jesús nos enseña que fuimos llamados a amarnos los unos a los otros.El amor implica sacrificio.Sacrificio es una palabra de las muchas que no nos gusta oír.Pensamos que significa que debemos renunciar a algo que queremos.Sin embargo, el significado literal de sacrificio es “santificar”, viene de las palabras: “sacer”, sagrado y “facere”, hacer. En otras palabras, cuando sacrificamos algo, santificamos nuestras vidas al compartir nuestros dones en el servicio de Dios.

Somos hechos a imagen y semejanza de Dios.Tenemos la tendencia a olvidar eso.Cuando miramos a otros, ¿ves la cara de Jesús en ellos?Cuando otros te miran, ¿ven en ti la cara de Jesús?Cuando nos damos cuenta de que todas las vidas son importantes para Dios, entonces son más fáciles la generosidad y el agradecimiento.¿Por qué?¡Porque es así como estamos hechos!Somos un solo Cuerpo en Cristo; cuando uno de nosotros sufre, todos sentimos el dolor.
