The Catholic Education Office is called to be a faith community committed to the educational mission of the church in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. We offer leadership and service in the ministry of total Catholic education. In collaboration with others engaged in this mission, we articulate a shared vision of Catholic education and teach the message of Jesus Christ as we follow his call to "Go make  disciples of all nations."

over $8,200 to Catholic Charities for Hurricane Relief

Look for coverage on local media this evening - KSDK Channel 5 and KMOV Channel 4 attended our event this morning!

Students at all the Catholic elementary schools in North County participated in various fundraising efforts this month to support relief efforts in the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. With pocket change collections, dress down days and other creative events and ideas, each school raised money to support Hurricane Relief Efforts through Catholic Charities St. Louis. On Wednesday, Sept. 27th students from each school gathered at SSM Health DePaul Hospital to present their collection for Catholic Charities St. Louis (CCSL). As a symbol of how they "pooled" their funds, the students each poured a container of coins and bills into a plastic swimming pool. Mrs. Cheryl Archibald, Board Chair for CCSL accepted the donation of more than $8,200, 100% of the students' donations will be used to support relief efforts in affected areas. Shelly Cordum, MS, RN, Chief Nursing Officer at DePaul Hospital, spoke to the students about how their donations are so needed and appreciated, from her perspective as someone who was actively involved in relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina.

Planning Underway for Sacramental Preparation Retreats The schools and PSR programs from our Federation parishes are working together on sacramental preparation retreat days for 2nd grade students at Pallottine Renewal Center and for 7th-8th grade students at Trinity Catholic High School. Retreat days for 2nd grade students are set for Oct. 5, Oct. 25 and Nov. 6 at Pallottine Renewal Center. The full-day retreats will be led by the Sacred Heart Sisters from the Archdiocese's Paul VI Institute. Last year's retreats were funded by a grant from The Koch Foundation, and were so successful that pastors and principals decided to continue them this year even without grant funding. A grant is being requested to continue them for 2018-19.

On Friday, Oct.13 Trinity Catholic High School will again host the North County Deanery's Confirmation Youth Rally. The REAP Team leads this interactive day for 7th and 8th grade students preparing for confirmation, both from elementary schools and PSR programs. Bishop Rivituso will celebrate the closing mass at 3pm at the end of the Rally. Please pray for all those preparing this special day, and for the students who are ready to take the next step in their faith journeys.

Lead. Learn. Proclaim.

Four educational leaders in Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of St. Louis will be honored this year with a Lead. Learn. Proclaim. Award for dedication and commitment to excellence.

The National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) will present these awards at a special reception and dinner at the annual convention to be hosted here in St. Louis at America’s Center, April 18-20.

We are proud to recognize the following educators:

  • Kathleen Hertlein, Theology Teacher and Academic Dean at St. Francis Borgia Regional High School
  • The Saint Louis University High School Campus Ministry Team
  • Reverend Ralph A. Siefert, S.M ., President of Chaminade College Preparatory High School
  • Kathleen Stinehart, Teacher at Ursuline Academy

These men and women were chosen from more than 150,000 teachers and administrators, as well as diocesan leaders and organizations who have demonstrated a strong Catholic educational philosophy, as well as exceptional ability, dedication and results.

“It takes dedicated people in the schools, the dioceses, the parishes and the communities to carry out the mission of faith formation in Catholic schools. They are the living messengers of God’s purpose from generation to generation,” said Jim Pavlacka, NCEA Director of Leadership Development.

The staff of the Catholic Education Office has been planning for this event for almost two years, and we are happy to report that registration is strong! We are proud of our history, and excited to share it, along with our plans for the future.

“Doc, you look a little young…”

Ste. Genevieve du Bois Catholic School seventh graders put their marketing skills into “practice,” literally, in collaboration with Junior Achievement (JA) and Purina to create a mini-storefront Pet Adoption Center simulation booth at the recent JA BizTown.

Students ran their simulated business for a day discovering “real world” economics, business finance, entrepreneurship and philanthropy.

Visitors to the booth chose a pet profile on a simulated Petfinder website, which was matched to a microchipped stuffed dog or cat.

Student “veterinary technicians” walked visitors through the benefits of pet adoption, performed a “medical exam” on the “pet” and made food recommendations (Purina, of course!) based on the pet’s age and dietary needs.
