Resources for Grant Applicants

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is the national anti-poverty program of the U.S. Catholic Bishops. CCHD works to break the cycle of poverty by helping low-income people participate in decisions that affect their lives, families, and communities. Currently, there are two grant programs: community development and economic development. For more information on these programs, including tutorials and webinars, visit the USCCB website.

CCHD grants involve a multi-step review process, the first of which is the pre-application. All new grant applicants must submit a pre-application for a community development or an economic development grant. CCHD uses this pre-application to determine the funding eligibility of a potential applicant organization. Approved organizations will be invited to apply for the full grant, which is due December 15th.

To fill out the pre-application, click here. Pre-application guidelines can be found in the Grant HandbookThe deadline to submit a pre-application is November 1st, 2015!

Here is a brief summary of both types of grants funded by CCHD:

Community Development Grant Program

CCHD Community development grant amounts range between $25,000 and $75,000.  Community Development grants support efforts that demonstrate a commitment to the dignity of the human person.  CCHD-funded groups are led by people living in poverty and work to address the root causes of poverty by nurturing solidarity between the poor and non-poor and facilitating the participation of people living in poverty in decisions that perpetuate poverty in their lives.  As part of such efforts, low-income people gain the ability to identify barriers, brainstorm solutions, and take action to change problematic structures and systems in their communities. Community Development Application Criteria

Economic Development Grant Program

CCHD Economic Development grant amounts range between $25,000 and $75,000.  CCHD supports economic development initiatives that significantly include the voice of the poor and marginalized in developing new businesses that offer good jobs and/or develop assets that will be owned and enjoyed by local communities. Economic Development Application Criteria
