Position Description: 

The Archdiocese of Saint Louis has an opportunity for a part-time (approximately 25 hours/week) REAP Team Retreat Leader. This position is part of the Catholic Youth Apostolate Office. The Archdiocese is a non-profit organization which encompasses 180 parishes, 110 schools, over 90 offices/agencies and a Catholic population of more than 500,000. The REAP Team is committed to providing “Seriously Fun Catholic Retreats” in the Archdiocese of St. Louis and beyond. The part-time Retreat Leader will be responsible for assisting the REAP Team Coordinator and Chastity Educator with approximately three retreats per week; some of these retreats will be on weekdays, some will be on the weekends, and some will be in the evenings. After a reasonable amount of on the job training, this staff member will then become responsible for leading retreats.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Retreat Leader must have good public speaking skills, be comfortable giving personal testimonies to large groups and smaller groups, able to help with skits and dramas, mingle with students and adults, and lead small group discussions focused on matters of faith. Retreat Leader must also be able to communicate effectively with people of all ages – young children, teenagers, and adults. He or she must also be able to manage a team of volunteers, giving them encouragement and constructive criticism as needed.

Knowledge & Experience Requirements:
• Must be a practicing Catholic with a fundamental understanding of what the Catholic Church teaches and why.
• Needs to be a role model of faith, not only to those who attend our retreats, but also to his/her fellow team members.
• A basic understanding of youth ministry, youth retreat work, and parish ministry is also desired.

Other Requirements:
The REAP Team Retreat leader must be (or become) compliant with the Safe Environment policies of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, including attendance at a Protecting God’s Children workshop, a thorough background check, and agreement to the Archdiocesan Code of Ethical Conduct.

Skills & Attitudes Required for Success in Job:
• Must enjoy working with teens and adults, have a youthful spirit, a good sense of humor, be compassionate, pastorally sensitive, hardworking, creative, and trustworthy.
• Must be willing to travel, especially to a variety of venues including parishes and schools; sometimes our events require out of town travel and being gone overnight so having a flexible calendar is essential.
• Must be a team player, comfortable giving direction to others, open to constructive criticism, and desirous of ongoing professional development.
