Maintenance Supervisor (Part-Time)

Position Description: 

Position Summary
Supervises the maintenance, renovation, restoration and upkeep of the parish/school buildings and grounds including mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems. Conducts preventative maintenance, safety and energy conservation audits. Supervises two or more full-time maintenance and grounds employees, may also supervise outside contractors and personally performs higher-level maintenance functions. Requires extensive experience in building and grounds maintenance work and supervision of employees.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Instructs and monitors maintenance staff in general custodial tasks.
a. Trains and reviews employee performance
b. Establishes daily work assignments
c. Reviews and approves time sheets
d. Supervises grounds maintenance
e. Set up facilities for parish events such as weddings, funerals, meetings, etc.
f. Maintains clean and safe environment in work area
g. Works with volunteers as directed by Pastor.

2. Maintains communication with appropriate persons.
a. Communicates parish personnel policies to maintenance staff
b. Maintains channels of communication with Pastor or Principal
c. Verifies contractor activity
d. Accompanies all inspectors (fire, health, insurance, EPA, etc.) on their rounds
e. Works with parish facilities committee as directed by Pastor

3. Performs as an operations technician.
a. Maintains buildings and equipment
b. Performs routine repairs and obtains necessary certification if required
c. Purchases supplies for maintenance as needed
d. Refers supplier contacts to Pastor as directed
e. Verifies receipt and condition of supplies
f. Attends seminars as requested by Pastor or Archdiocese
g. Maintains open file of emergency systems, i.e., plumbing, electrical, fire, sewage, underground tanks, etc.
h. Oversees maintenance of the Parish cemetery

Knowledge & Experience Requirements
• Must have necessary mechanical skills
• Must have good interpersonal communication skills
• Must have ability to organize and prioritize time
• Must have ability to perform and prioritize tasks
• Must have ability to supervise others

Skills & Attitudes Required for Success in Job
• Able to maintain confidentiality
• Three or more years supervisory experience in related field
• Previous maintenance experience
• Familiarity with Word and Excel

Relationships & Requirements of Position
• Evening and weekend work might be required
• Work with machinery and equipment requiring considerable caution
• Exposure to climate changes and uncomfortable temperatures
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and stand for long periods
• Ability to provide own transportation for job-related responsibilities
