PAUL VI CERTIFICATE IN RELIGIOUS STUDIES
Course Requirements (20 credits) Once you have completed all courses complete the Paul VI Certification Request Form.

  • SS Sacred Scripture - 6 credits
  • ST Sacred Theology - 6 credits
  • RE/PT Religious Ed/Pastoral Theology - 4 credits
  • MT Moral Theology - 2 credits
  • LT Liturgy - 2 credits


PAUL VI ONLINE CATECHISM CERTIFICATE
The Online Catechism Certificate Program is a two-year program of thorough study of the entire Catechism of the Catholic Church. Each semester, students take a 10-week online course. Through these four courses, students examine and reflect on basic beliefs, sacraments, moral teachings of the Church and prayer. Upon successful completion of the courses, students may receive the Catechism Certificate. (Students also may take these courses in the traditional classroom format and count them toward the certificate.) Once you have completed all courses complete the PAUL VI Certification Request Form.

Required Courses (8 credits):

  • ST 101 Catechism I: Basic Catholic Doctrine - 2 credits
  • LT 101 Catechism II: Catholic Sacramental and Liturgical Theology - 2 credits
  • MT 101 Catechism III: Foundations of Catholic Morality - 2 credits
  • SP 101 Catechism IV: Introduction to Catholic Prayer and Spirituality - 2 credits

CERTIFICATE OF CATHOLIC MEDICAL MORAL CATECHESIS
The purpose of this program is to prepare students to teach
the Catholic principles and pastoral aspects of the medical moral life,
covering medical and biotechnological issues. The certificate program is
comprised of courses in the philosophical and theological understanding of the
human person. Students will take both a fundamental course in Catholic moral
theology as well as more specialized courses, covering topics such as,
sexuality and family life, ordinary and extraordinary means of preserving life,
end of life issues and respect for the sacredness of human life from conception
until natural death. Students will also be guided in practical methods that
will enable them to integrate these moral principles into their own teaching or
ministry. This program is open to all interested adults and consists of twenty
credit hours. The program will be of special interest to those who teach in
Catholic elementary schools or Catholic high schools, those involved in various
ministries in the Church and, of course, medical professionals.

Course Requirements

Students are required to complete courses in the first group
of course work (group A) before beginning courses in the second group (group
B), with the exception of SS 101 Introduction to Sacred Scripture which can be
taken at any point in the program and Medical Moral Catechesis which should be
taken as the last course in the program.

  • PH 101 Christian Philosophy for Catechesis
  • ST 104 Theological Anthropology
  • SS 101 Introduction to Sacred Scripture (*students may take this course at any
    point in the program)

Group B

  • MT 104 Catholic Medical Moral Issues: Beginning of life
  • MT 105 Catholic Medical Moral Issues: End of Life.
  • MT/RE 106 Medical Moral Catechesis

 

RELIGION TEACHER CERTIFICATION (Catholic Education Office)
Paul VI offers courses toward certification granted by the Catholic Education Office for teachers in Archdiocesan elementary schools and Parish Schools of Religion (PSR). Teachers are required to complete 12 credits in doctrine, scripture, morality, sacraments and methodology for various age levels. An additional course is required every five years for updating. Once you have completed required courses, contact Catholic Education Office to receive certification.

COORDINATOR/DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (CRE/DRE) CERTIFICATION (Catholic Education Office)

Paul VI offers courses toward CRE (24 credits) or DRE (34 credits) certification by the Catholic Education Office. See Religious Education Department Certification Policies for specific requirements and complete policy. Contact Catholic Education Office for review of credits required for certification.


RETREATS

The Sisters of the Society Devoted to the Sacred Heart on staff at Paul VI Institute offer Days of Prayer for children of all ages, vocation awareness, Sacramental children's retreats in preparation for First Penance, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. Also available are Retreat Days for First Communion students with their parents, Confirmation students with their sponsors/parents, school and PSR faculties, RCIA, parish ministries, organizations, etc. Retreats

PAUL VI PARISH SUBSCRIPTION PROGRAM
Paul VI offers a subscription program to parishes. Instead of paying the individual tuition rate per student, parishes may pay an annual subscription fee (based on parish size) which provides unlimited access to Paul VI courses for all members of the parish and school.
